2nd and 4th Mondays 6:30pm-8:30pm (ongoing)
Communicating with others can be extremely rewarding, or extremely frustrating. A family member upsets us and we become angry and say things we regret. We see our friend sad from a loss and don’t know what to say. Learning the techniques of compassionate communication can create a better connection with others and ourselves and support us in using skillful ways to meet difficult internal and external experiences.
Each session we review the foundational principles and philosophy of Non-Violent Communication (NVC) and its communication model. We will learn how to tune into what we need in a respectful, non-judgmental way. We will explore how we can invite others to contribute to us from a place of connection, from where we can honor both their “yes” and “no” in relation to our needs. We will practice transforming enemies (individuals, groups) into humans with needs just like us. We will learn how to use NVC in our everyday lives to foster compassion and respect.
Each session will be a combination of information sharing combined with experiential exercises to explore how the information fits into each person’s life. You will leave with skills including increased self-awareness, listening, emotional intelligence, and empathy.
