Cutting Through to Pristine Awareness

September 17, 2017 @ 12:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Cutting Through to Pristine Awareness: Foundations in Dzogchen Meditation
with Doug Veenhof

Two weekends: 9/9-9/10 and 9/16 and 9/17 from 12:30-5:30pm each day.
The weekends will build on each other, but feel free to come as you are able.

Meditation is the tool we use to look at our minds, cutting through the fog of our thoughts and getting to the pristine awareness that is inherent in all of us.

This 22-hour immersion in Dzogchen meditation and view will cover the essential preliminary attitudes to set up a successful meditation practice. Doug will cover a full range of shamatha practices for developing meditation stability and vividness through single pointed focus, and the vipashyana meditations that power the insights that cut through illusory appearances to pristine awareness.

Conveniently scheduled on two consecutive weekends, this program provides the transformative intensity of retreat with the casual flexibility and interaction of a workshop.

The program segments include talks that include practical meditation instruction and tips suitable for all experience levels as well as explorations of the exhilarating philosophy that underpins the Dzogchen Buddhist view of consciousness and the world of experience. Each segment is anchored by a 24-minute meditation that integrates the view into a comprehensive progression of practices to take home with you.

Topics include: The Three Thoughts that Turn the Mind; Adding a Mute Switch to the Ruminating Mind with Breath Meditation; Structures of Consciousness; Taking Mental Appearances as the Object of Meditation; Can “I” Be Found; The Empty Nature of the Mind; and Spontaneous Presence.
