We all want to be happy and we all want to be free of suffering. Over 2500 years ago, Shakyamuni Buddha taught how we can use meditation to awaken wisdom, compassion, ease and joy. Modern scientific evidence has shown overwhelming that meditation helps relieve physical pain and mental stress. Join long-time meditator and inspiring teacher Elaine Jackson as she guides us through how to meditate, incuding:
• Meditation posture
• Different meditation techniques
• How to deal with obstacles to meditation
• How to set up a home meditation practice
• Meditation practice as a Path to Happiness
This course is one of a 2 year 14 course series of FPMT (Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahaya Tradition) Discovering Buddhism series that offers a solid foundation in the teachings and practice of Tibetan Mahayana Buddhism. These classes do not have to be taken in sequence-all are welcome!
** Dana is a Pali word meaning “generosity.” As one of the six paramitas or “perfections,” the practice of generosity is an integral part of the Buddhist path. Dharma teachings are traditionally offered on the basis of dana, so our program fees are in place solely to sustain Tara Mandala’s operating fees, online program costs, and other overhead for our many Dharma activities. The teachers for our programs offer their time and teaching and are not paid. They are only financially compensated by whatever participants choose to offer. Most teachers dedicate their lives to teaching and often have no other source of income, and many others donate all of their dana to Dharma activities.
