The Buddha taught that our normal life mainly consists of suffering. This is understood when we experience physical and mental pain, and when our normal pleasures and joys do not satisfy us for very long.
The Buddha also taught that a method exists for finding physical health, wellbeing, lasting joy, and satisfaction. These are the teachings on Karma, or “The Laws of Cause and Effect,” and the advices on where we should focus our actions, words, and thoughts.
In this course, you will gain a basic understanding of the Buddhist teachings on the Laws of Cause and Effect, aka Karma, and the ethical principles/guidelines advised by the Buddha to reach a life of peace and meaning, aka the Refuge and Freedom Vows.

This class is perfect for beginners as Ryan will provide a basic outline, definitions, and applications for the material. Classes will include meditation, dharma talk, discussion and prayer.

Ryan has been a student of Lama Amie Diller and Tibetan Buddhism for the past 6 years. During this time he has completed the 18 Courses of the Asian Classics Institute, receiving the title of “Maroke,” and has also completed several short group and solo meditation retreats. Ryan is a yoga teacher and has casually studied yogic philosophy in tandem with his Tibetan Buddhist studies. He lives happily with his two cats, Sam and Ash, in downtown Sacramento.
