Living With an Open Heart in a Broken World

January 26, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Welcoming 2016 with a deep breath and an open heart.
Join us for the first series of the new year.

Living with an OPEN HEART in a broken world.

A 5-week series
Tuesdays 6:30-8:30pm
January 5 – February 2, 2016

Taught by Brandy Davis

During this five weeks we will explore our emotions and practice compassion with a meditation we can do on and off the cushion.
This will be a fun and interactive series. Each session includes guided meditation, a presentation and opportunities for discussion.

Understanding our Emotions
We will explore the nature of emotions, our personal triggers, and methods for transforming destructive emotional episodes into opportunities for enhanced connection.*

*If you attended the recent Cultivating Emotional Balance weekend with Doug Veenhof – we will be unpacking the emotional episode timeline. If you didn’t attend – not to worry.

Tonglen, Buddhist Meditation for cultivating love and compassion
By embracing, rather than rejecting unwanted and painful aspects of experience, we overcome fear and develop greater empathy for ourselves and others.

Pema Chodron says this:
‘The meditation of tonglen reverses the usual logic of avoiding suffering and seeking pleasure and, in the process, we become liberated from a very ancient prison of selfishness.’

Riversong Meditation, Sierra 2

Note from Brandy,
Hi all, I’m really excited for this series. I have been volunteering in prisons for the last few years teaching yoga and mindfulness and leading a restorative justice circle. One of the tag lines of the program is, ‘hurt people, hurt people’. This rings true even for those of us merely serving time in the prison between our ears. My hope is that our time together will foster personal healing, so that we can make manifest a second idea, ‘healed people, heal people’.
