Evidence shows that even 5 minutes of meditation a day can go a long way to reduce stress, increase happiness, and sharpen focus. Sometimes it seems just getting to the cushion is the biggest obstacle!
Lama Tsongkhapa describes the stages of studying Dharma: first is hearing the teachings, (or reading the texts and commentaries). The second is contemplation, where the student reflects on what they have learned, examines the felt meaning, and how it relates to one’s own life. The third is meditation, placing focused concentration on the subject, deepening our understanding, and achieving realizations on the truth and nature of the dharma.
